Honeymoon Cruise

What a great way to start a life with someone.  After committing themselves to each other, to God and to the world, a young couple heads out to sea for their honeymoon and a start to their new life together.

At least that is how it started.  This story was told to me in part by Al Gore's publicist (he was at the time, not sure who is his publicist now).  It was the second night of the cruise, and I walked out of my cabin and was heading to my office a few decks above.  As I left the crew area and entered the passenger area, I noted one of the ships security guards sitting in chair outside a guest cabin.  I wondered what he was doing, but did not stop to ask, as that would be rude to security who was doing their job.

Later in the day I was talking with a passenger, and I found out he was Al Gore's publicist which I thought very interesting.  He started to tell me about what had happened at his table at dinner the previous night.

His story starts by saying what a great trip it had been so far, and they were all having a wonderful dinner, but there was a young couple at the table who were on their honeymoon and had obviously been drinking for many hours.

The young couple went back and forth, from being lovey to each other, to being pissed off at each other.  Now no one knows what the new bride said, but it had to have been something big, as the new groom pulled his fist back and cold cocked his new bride right between the eyes.  As if in a hollywood movie, she and the chair she is sitting on falls backward to the floor. There she is on the second night of her honeymoon knocked out and on the floor in a dinning room on a cruise ship, not exactly what she expected I would surmise.

Well the gentlemen at the table (the publicist included), tackled the new groom and pinned him to the ground.  Security was called and the man was taken back to his cabin.
The publicist ended his story and we both commented on how sad that was.

The next day when I spoke with the head of Security, he commented how a passenger was in "cabin arrest" the remainder of the cruise for a fight in the dining room.  So that answered my question as to why I kept seeing a security guard outside a passenger cabin.  The man was in the cabin for the remainder of the cruise, the bride flew home when we reached our next port, and that is one start to their marriage.

I do not know what happened when they both got back home, but I can only guess that the honeymoon was over.
