In today's society, everyone knows that a photo them can be sent all around the world to millions of people within a few minutes. So people are somewhat cautious on what they do with those photos they don't want anyone else to see.
When I was young, it was the embarrassing "Polaroid" that might make its way from friend to friend, so you had to make sure you hid that Polaroid well so no one could find it.
This story is neither, but a story of how things can still get around even in the "old days" before the internet.
A few friends of mine that I worked with on ships had an fun evening with a passenger. This passenger was eager to have "fun" with my friends in the confines of a ships cabin.
Apparently it was so much fun, that one of them (I'm not sure exactly who) decided to record their fun on film. The photos were varied, him with her, the other with her, a high five here, another one there, her by herself, I think you get the picture, or pictures as this story goes.
Now you would think that with photos such as these, my friends would find a way to get them developed (it was a 35mm camera, I guess they did not have a Polaroid) in a way that no one they knew would see them. You could in those days mail your film in to get developed..
But no, these guys decided to give the roll of film to one of the ships photographers to develop and print. Now I'm sure the photag said he would be discrete and and only print copies for them. Anyone who knows a ships photographer, should know that won't be the case, sorry photogs, but you know it is true.
So the film was developed, my friends had their night of joviality recorded for them on glossy paper and they were happy.
Not long afterward, they started getting comments from friends around the fleet, it appears that somehow, copies of the photographs made their way around to every ship in the fleet and some islands around the Caribbean as well.
Needless to say, it was a long time before they lived that one down, come to think about it, I don't' think they ever lived it down.
